Love it ! Simple easy inexpensive excellent ideas
I making this, I found the seat at goodwill today. I’m gonna post a video once I’m finished ❤
What a great find, please let me know how it turns out. BTW, thanks for watching!
Very haunted mansion esque trick, love it. Do you think you can do this in a window for passerbyers? I'm doing a lot of projections on my windows, this would be a cool addition if you think it would work.
Hi Refurbished, yes you can certainly do this in a window. It might take a bit to get the right light intensity campared to how dark it is outside the window, but that is all the typical trial and error that it takes to set up an effect. Let me know how it turns and and thanks for watching!
This is epic! I would love to use this to build an animatronic Pterodactyl ❤
I'm glad that you like jollyrodge. Have fun with the build, let me know how it turns out... and thanks for watching!
Hi Paul! Are there any good projects coming up soon?!
Hey CFAO, boy that year rolled around fast! Yes I do have some projects in the works, but it looks like it will be a particularly late release date for me. Sorry for that...life gets in the way of run sometime. It is always great to hear from you!
@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms can't wait Paul!
Love it, can I get a parts list for this prop?
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately I don't do parts lists, mostly because products and their avalibilty change often, making parts lists quickly outdated. I do however try to find parts and pieces that are off-the-shelf and/or found on the internet. Additionally, many items can be substituted with similar items that you might be able to find in your area.
nice
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Beautifully done.
Thank you I appreciate the nice comment.
Omg I absolutely lovvve your channel!! I think I found you 3 years ago! I love it all!! You’ve done so good!
Thank you so much and thanks for hanging in there with me.
This rocks
Thanks, I'm glad that you like and I hope that you find it helpful.
Awesome idea ❤❤❤❤ xxx
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Man, you've got it going on. Love it
Thank you so much for the nice comment and thanks for watching.
There are so many UA-camrs that do halloween prop videos. Yours however are extraordinary! You have an uncanny ability to use unexpected items like a baby swing, or a corkscrew to effectively animate a prop! That is a true skill! But what I enjoy the most about your videos is that they are concise and well put together. And you have clearly tested everything ahead of time and there are no surprises or "oops." So many presenters try to inject humor and personality into the process and it makes for long stupid videos. Conversely, yours are very on point and easy to follow! And, as others have mentioned, you have an appreciation for subtlety, that is a great thing!
Hi Bill. First, let me apologize for not replying to you in a timely manner. Second, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. You have obviously taken the time to watch many of my videos which I appreciate. Decades ago I stumbled my way through an educational system that relentlessly told me I was deficient. As it turns out, I just learn and think differently. Perhaps that is why I try to teach others in a way that would have been more beneficial to me way back then. Whatever the reason, I am glad that you and others appreciate how I present my videos. Everything happens for a reason.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms 0 seconds ago @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Your sharing caused me an "ah ha" moment. I am "on the spectrum, and ADHD. So I process information differently than do many others. Turns out that your teaching method syncs very well with my learning method. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You are most welcome Bill!
So nice and simple! Say, where did you get those fake plants?
I visit thrift stores and keep my eyes peeled for artificial plants and trees at a fraction of the cost. Thanks for asking.
This is a great design! Nice work!
I'm glad that you liked my design for this animated prop. Thanks also for watching and commenting.
Omg this is a great creation & thank you for being hugely detailed for those that may struggle to follow along - I must make this
I'm so glad that you appreciate me going through all the details and I hope that you do give this prop a try. Thank you so much for taking the time to not only watch, but to also leave a comment.
First of all thank you, for this tutorial. It will be a challenge to do because I do not have the two main items that you have in your tutorial for movement. So therefore we have to figure out something different. First thing is the top of the fan how wide is it. The second thing is a movement of the baby swing, I guess? Hopefully we can come up with a replacement for these two items. In order to make this project similar to yours. We, is me, myself, and I. Thank you again.
Hi and thanks for taking the time to watch and ask questions. The width of the fan is about 7", the important thing to keep in mind is finding one that the ribcage of the skeleton (that you use) can fit over. As far as the baby swing, I have not seen any other product similar, probably because they have a patent on it. As suggested in my videos where this is used, look for a used one and pay a fraction of the cost. Good luck and keep your eyes peeled for bargains!
Thank you for the tutorial! We had a vegetables attack theme and I made some spooky asparagus (covered the snake head) inside a "top secret" box. It creeped everyone out, it was great!
Hi Sarah, wow that sounds like a great application for this prop. I am so glad that it was a success and thanks for watching.
Which model/brand of skeleton have you chosen for this project?
It was actually one that I purchased a few years ago and had on hand. Halloween merchandise changes every year, so sometimes finding the exact same thing is difficult from year to year. The good news is that there are many very similar skeletons out there, both in retail stores and on-line. Keep in mind some adjustments to my instructions may have to take place in order to accommodate the style/model that you find. Thanks for watching Sacha.
Very very nice! 🇮🇹
Thanks Sacha!
Happy Halloween Paul! From David
Thanks David! Happy Belated Halloween to you too.
@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thanks Paul!
Instead of string, you could have used a rigid arm to move the eyes.
Yes, that is a great alternative. I always like it when viewers customize my props ideas to make them their own. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Have you tried this without the counter weight. The deer motor should be able to handle the eyes without it.
I have a frosted apothecary jar. Does anybody know how it looks when the glass is frosted?
Just gave it a look. Seems pretty cool. I do wonder why you didn’t glue the bottle to the book, however. Your thoughts?
It can be glued, your call. I just find that for packing things away, it is sometimes easier when props breakdown to smaller components. Additionally, it is easier to change, fill & empty the colored water without it bing glued down. Thanks for asking and for watching.
This is really great! Can you help me understand how the head turns back and forth?
Thanks for asking Bobbijean. The head movment is an unintended "happy accident" at the coupling located where the push-pull rod exits from the top of the perch and joins right under the raven's tail. The push-pull connector moves the Raven's connector up and down but also causes a slight rotation when doing so. This in-turn causes the head to rotate.
Brilliant and very easy to follow along with! Thank you!
You are welcome Jack, thanks for watching and for commenting.
I thought you might like to see a Behind the scenes of my version of your Spooks Sign... I just posted it tonight, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/Xg-oLiy6nzo/v-deo.html
That looks great Ray! Very clean application and I like the direct drive option that you installed. You took my idea and improved upon it, bravo and thanks for sharing.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thanks, I learned from the best 😃
Awesome job! Love your channel.
Thanks Tracy!
How did you actually make them hang from tge ceiling? With celotape...? The candles with the batteries is heavy though😮 Thank you!! Looks great
Hi Marta and thanks for asking. Actually they are not hanging, insted they are connected to a motorized and balanced armature that is hidden form view. Here is the complete How-To video: ua-cam.com/video/ACiCzAIJigI/v-deo.html
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms wow now that is another level!! Thanks for your answer. Mine managed to hold on fine with some tape🤷🏼♀️🤭👻
Me again 🙂I finally made one of these today, and it was a lot easier than I anticipated. I only ran into a couple issues not directly related to your instructions (my bucket had a lip around the edge & center, so I had to use longer screws than what was called for; it also made it impossible to center the plywood since I couldn't see the center at all. I also had to re-cut the plywood base since the baby swing I bought apparently has a wider footprint than the one you used & the first one was too narrow. Had to add an inch making it 19 x 20). All in all I am thrilled with the results, and with how quickly it all went together. Thanks for sharing the great tutorial! PS, I tagged you on Insta if you're interested in seeing it.
Hi Susan, thanks for tackeling this build and bravo for making the necessary adjustment on it. Many supplies and models very and change, so I was happy to hear that you were able to adjust the instructions to make everything work. I will look for that Insta post, I'm very curious to see your finished product!
Though this video is older it is still relevant. I made this Bride with the swing. Despite it seemingly being locked in place with the same clamps you used, it is top heavy as you said, but mine seems to "sway" (my wire stand is a 4 leg base and not as wide as the one you have) alot of the weight seems to lean toward the front. Twice the swing has a made a loud knocking sound (I assume from the weight distribution.) I repositioned it as best as I could, and though it sways without noise the entire Bride still seems "wably" when in motion. IDK if what I am describing is normal? Not sure if you had a similar experience....maybe I should unclamp it and reclamp it? Or maybe the base needs some weight to it? But overall it turned out great.
Hi and thanks for asking. I would try attaching 4 wire tethers up at the waist, under the skirt and evenly spaced around the circumferance of the waist. Have those then come down and attach to the oval ring, using additional claps. Those claps should also be evenly spaced and corresponding with where each wire connects to the waist directly above them. The wires should angel out as they connect to the oval ring, giving the dressform more stability. Additionally make sure that your swing's base is sitting on a level and sound surface. Placing a weight or weights (such as a theatrical sandbag) on the base can also help with it's stability. I hope that those suggestions help.
Thank You so much for your quick response, I will try the wire tethers, I think that should do the trick, I will let you know. Again Thank You so much. 😊
The added support from the waist helped along with adjusting the swing a bit back vs forward. She still tends to "lean" but not nearly as bad and the swing is running normal (no loud knocking noise).
Always clear and detailed enough for those of us who are beginners. Great video quality as well! Love the fact that you have some relatively easy props to go along with the more complicated builds. As always amazingly creative using materials that we can all find. Happy Halloween!
Thanks Arlen. Yes, I do try to mix things up with both easy and advanced prop builds. Thanks for noticing and for your thoughful comment, they are always appreciated.
Brilliantly Constructed! The movement is so natural! That’s why he is so scary!!
Thanks Dawn, I'm glad that you like it... and that you took the time to leave such a nice comment.
how do you keep your props somewhat waterproof ?? As we get a lot of rain and even snow by Halloween time
You will need to be creative when it comes to weather proofing where this prop will reside, such as having it under a covered area made to look like an old crypt or even turning a patio umbrella into and old tree and have it sit under it.
Great tutorial as always 👌
Thank you, I appreciate you watching and commenting on my videos.
Hi. Me again. I did something similar like this. I made a caged skeleton. However, it's only static and not motorized in any way. All I needed was 2 round laundry baskets (with the grid design), a 3 ft. tall plastic posable skeleton, a plastic prop chain, dark colored zip-ties, and black and silver spray paint. First, I gave the laundry baskets a base coat of black spray paint, and gave them a light coating of silver. When they were dry, I placed my skeleton in one of the baskets and placed the second basket on top of it forming a "cage", securing them with zip-ties. Finally, I hanged it with a plastic prop chain.
Great idea for a much larger cage! FYI - You can still add the animator to show off the skelton.
Congrats on the subscribers. You deserve many more.
Thanks everfree, I appreciate you saying that.
Are those lobsters 🦞 Paul?!
I prefer to call them crawdads.
My bad
This video reminded me that I have to go repaint my "Beware of Spooks" sign I made from your video a few years ago. Whoo Hoo!
LOL, thanks Cory!
Just last night I was bemoaning the fact that there weren't very many new Halloween prop videos this year, and like magic you posted one 🙂 These critters are creepy-cute!
Time constraints limits just how many I can produce each year... but I was able to get one more out. Thanks Susan for your continued interest and support, it is much appreciated..
I was so excited when i saw this pop up. I thought you was done for the year!!! Thank you Paul! My favorite channel by farrrrr!!!
Thanks so much Beth, I had one more in me for this year. Have a fun Halloween!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms awesome!!! I look forward to your videos every year! I love the unique things you make. Hope you have a great Halloween also! And thanks again for the amazing tutorials.
...Oh my god, it just occurred to me... Whichever method of animation you choose, you could easily hide it inside the torso of a marionette, rig it up on its controller with strings longer or shorter to keep it locked in a menacing pose, turn it on, and then POOF! A new case of pupaphobia with every new visitor! "Hey! You! Cut me down! I just want to PLAY! HEE HEE HEE HA HA HA HA HAAA!!!" Happy to subscribe, sir! 💀
I'm glad I sparked your imagination on how these little gizmos can be used in other props. Thanks Bob for your support, it is always appreciated.
Yay I've been dying for an October upload!
Your wish is my command. I'm glad that you liked it and thanks for your support.
Great job Paul, you sir are the MacGyver of Halloween prop making. Those of us that don't have 3D printers and vinyl cutting machines certainly appreciate the low tech approach that all of your video's use to get such high impact results. Thank you.
This! I do follow other prop channels, but you are a true home DIY'er. Your breakdowns are detailed and easy to follow. I SUPER appreciate this channel.
You hit the nail on the head as to my approach. This is what I have been doing all my life... making cool things out of ordinary objects. Thanks for watching and for your very insightful comment.
Thanks whytewaive, I appreciate your appreciation!
Another awesome job Paul! Love the blacklight effects! Off to buy more stuff!
Thanks CFAO, I always appreciate your comments and support.
Always happy to see a new upload. You really help me get in the mood for Halloween 🎃
Thanks... and it's just around the corner.
How did I miss this 7 hours ago?! Can't wait to watch Paul!
I tried to give you a heads up....
This is another great How-To DIY... These are fantastic caged monsters. I kind of remember those blinking noisy prop things back in the day, but I don't think I ever got them just because they were noisy and if you have a lot of props that make their own sounds it just becomes difficult to manage. My haunt doesn't use that kind of thing, but it is truly inspiring to see what others make and how they make it... but like I say, never say never, I never know when I might need one of these. Thank you for the video I always appreciate when other makers share what their doing and how they made their props.
Thanks Ray, I always appreciate your comments! Many years ago I had a flat lid crypt prop for the front yard. It was about 12" high and the stone lid (faux of course) was around 2' x 5'. It was animated to lift open slightly and then go back down. The fog machine was located inside with a timer for it to go off every few minutes, for a few seconds. I hung one of these things on the inside of the lid and every time the fog machine went off so would this thing making the weird noise and the flasing green light would color the fog as it came spewing out of the partially open lid. It was very effective and very easy to accomplish. Yep, never say never cause they are actually very versatile.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms ... yes, exactly, it's ideas like that!
A great idea. Thank you for the inspiration.
You are welcome! I hope to inspire others and their imagination. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
